How About An Example?
Stuart, a top account executive, was suddenly unable to focus at work, and developed painful headaches which grew more intense daily. At home, he was becoming irritable and losing sleep. Using tools he learned from self, he was able to alleviate some of these symptoms, but others persisted. He thought about taking some time off, and began to wonder if he and his job were still a good fit.
The experience with self led to his seeking answers, and a solution, within himself. A heightened self awareness enabled him to relate his problems to his latest work assignment. This surprised him! The work was right up his alley, and he had enjoyed dealing with this client in the past. self taught him to consider the possibility that, in some way, this project was not fulfilling a critical need. At last, he understood. Stuart had a strong need to be creative in his work. He realized, however, that nearly all of the new ideas were coming from the account's in-house team.
Stuart restructured the project to include himself in the creative process. Not only did he feel and perform better, but he made sure that his future undertakings included a high degree of creativity. Stuart is now a more satisfied and productive employee. His company not only retained a valuable executive — and saved the tremendous cost of replacing one — but saw the quality of Stuart's work improve from his greater understanding of how he works best.
